A remortgage refers to the process of switching your existing mortgage to a new deal, either with the same lender or a different one, without moving home. People typically remortgage to secure a better interest rate, reduce monthly payments, release equity from their property, or change the mortgage terms. You may be coming to the end of your current mortgage deal. If this is the case, it is worth starting the remortgage process 4-6 months before the deal is about to expire. This makes switching products a seamless process, rather than going onto the lender’s standard variable rate which may lead you to having to pay a higher monthly mortgage payment.
